Your Questions, Answered
-
We offer a specialist house‑history research and storytelling service designed to uncover the story of your home and present it in a beautifully written, heritage‑rich narrative.
Every project includes detailed archival research using census records, maps, directories, newspapers and local history sources. We then shape these findings into a clear, engaging story that explains how your home developed, who lived there and what shaped its identity over time.
You can choose from three A3 presentation formats, digital, printed or framed, each professionally designed with a photo or floral border and supplied with a proof so you can refine the final piece.

The process is really simple! Once you share your address, I begin by checking available records to confirm what can be uncovered.
I then research your home using trusted sources such as census returns, electoral registers, historic maps, trade directories, local archives and newspaper databases.
After gathering the evidence, we write a clear, narrative‑led history that explains how your home evolved, who lived there and what was happening in the wider area at the time.
You receive a proof of your A3 design to review, and once approved, your final digital, printed or framed piece is prepared. The result is a polished, accurate and emotionally resonant story of your home.

Records are only available from 1939, with census information from 1921. So, the older your property the more likely we are to be able to uncover its history.. Victorian terraces, Edwardian villas, cottages, flats, converted buildings and properties often uncover some great stories!
But, even if your home is newer or records are limited, there is always a story to tell — whether through land development, street history, early maps or the people who lived nearby. If you’re unsure what can be found, you can request a Free Mini Check to confirm the research potential before committing.
-
Sometimes, even after extensive research, we are unable to find your house - likely if the numbers have changed. If this is the case we’ll be sure to let you know the extent that we are able to research your story.
-
Most house‑history projects take around two weeks, depending on the depth of available records and the level of detail required. Some properties with complex histories — such as renumbered streets, multiple name changes or extensive resident turnover — may take slightly longer.
You’ll receive regular updates, and your proof will be sent as soon as the narrative and design are complete.

We use a wide range of trusted historical sources to ensure accuracy and depth. These include census records, electoral rolls, parish registers, historic maps, trade directories, local newspapers, property documents, valuation records and archive collections. Where relevant, we also use specialist resources such as wartime bomb maps, shipyard employment records, street renumbering data and local history publications. Every detail is cross‑checked to ensure the story you receive is both accurate and well‑supported.
